About the snaring survey

There is currently a lack of reliable data to indicate the extent of snaring in the UK and its impact on animal welfare. Only by gathering accurate figures can the scale of the issue be understood and a case made for appropriate changes to wildlife protection law.

The Snaring Survey represents a vital new tool in the collation of data on snaring practice by asking those on the front line, such as veterinary professionals, wildlife crime officers or members of wildlife protection groups, to use their unique position to take part in this surveillance project.

I am pleased to support this initiative which represents a chance for the veterinary profession to contribute knowledge to an area of animal welfare which still needs much research. Only by improving our knowledge of the impact of snaring on animal welfare, can the case be built for reducing suffering where it occurs.
